Do you have a room you have been planning on making over? Consider yellow and grey for the color scheme – it is an amazingly cheerful color combination. Be forewarned, though, that there are a plethora of shades of grey, and it can be just as tricky to get the right shade of grey as it is an off-white. However, if you like what you see here, you are all set, as I have included my color palette below! Also, I have included my before and after shots of three individual sub-projects in the room – all of which were based on reused items to keep the cost small!
Are you currently looking to cover a piece of furniture you adore? If so, I have the perfect fabric for you. It is a beautiful blend of neutral greys and creams with a shimmering undertone of champagne – it is absolutely a stunning blend of metallic gold and silver. I imagine it would look spectacular in just about any décor and theme you currently have or are creating. That is the beauty of animal prints – they fit in to just about any décor!
If you have a case of the winter blues (or even if you don’t), there is nothing quite so revitalizing as bringing a bit of nature’s beauty inside to freshen up our décor. Living in the Northwest does have its perks – because of all our abundant rain and more moderate temperatures, the first signs of spring are already peeking out. And since February is a great time to prune your shrubs, why not bring those branches in to liven up your living space!
It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air. ~W.T. Ellis
There is a definite magic surrounding the holidays. Perhaps it is just about going home, where ere that may be. I whole heartedly believe that Burton Hillis has it right that “The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.” With that said, I have enjoyed planning my front porch Christmas décor to greet our dear family and friends as they come to our home for the holidays.
Since mixing silver and gold accents is all the rage in home décor these days, I thought I would set about creating my own silver and gold Christmas ornaments. My tree from last year primarily had gold, red, and green ornaments, with crystal accents sprinkled throughout. This year I also wanted to incorporate some silver mercury glass ornaments into the tree, and thought it would flow better if I created some transitional ornaments with both gold and silver on the same bulb. This easy, quick and fun DIY took only minutes per ornament.
Looking to make or buy your own reclaimed wood furniture for your yard or home? Check out these fantastic designs made by Beneath the Bark. Each piece is unique and beautiful, not to mention, sturdy! So in preparation for my daughters out door wedding this September, I knew I needed a few key pieces that would blend in nicely with the forest wedding theme I was trying to create. Here they are, and may I say, they were absolutely stunning at the wedding, and were a huge hit!
Do you have a drawer full of old family photos? Perhaps some family history photos passed down through the generations and you aren’t sure what to do with them. How about creating a family history wall to tie the generations together?
The wall in this post has four generations in it, from my grandparents to my children, including a photo of both my husband and I as children! It is one of my new favorite walls in my house. It wills surely get tweaked and some photos may even change, but it puts a smile on my face and reminds me of all the people I love!
If you are like me, are over thirty, and/or love the Goodwill and yard sale shopping, you may have a lot of décor that has a gold appearance. With all the mercury glass and silver & grey décor in vogue right now, I wanted to find a solution to my “gold problem” without spending a lot of money.
My solution was found in a bees-wax-based metallic rub called Inka-Gold, made by Viva Decor, and priced at just $6.99 at Jo-Ann Fabrics. Fabulous things come in small packages and this little jar of paint is no exception, transforming everything from picture frames to wall sconces. The bonus is that it is quite easy, fast, and fun to do as you jazz up your décor!
When I see the tulip leaves peeking through the ground, I know spring is on its way. With an early Easter Holiday this year, I have begun thinking about a how to jazz up my spring table. With all the essentials for this table (except the floral pottery dishes) from Pier One, and some fun DIY burlap bunny ears napkin rings, I was good to go! Obviously, this napkin rings aren’t sturdy enough to last more than a few times, but they were literally just a few cents as well as quick and easy to make. All you need is a scrap of burlap, which you probably already have laying around, and a low temp glue gun.
Using quotes in home decor can really personalize your spaces. My sister Ruth has an energizing and fun personality, which is reflected in her beautiful home with its very eclectic theme. Her decor is a wonderful feast for the eyes, incorporating different colors and textures. I especially love her rich use of a variety of quotes in decorating. Here are 8 quotes on different media that you could use as inspiration to develop your own quote-based decorations!
